Advice on having a house built?

We just bought a home from a builder, but it's just an empty lot now, and they'll build based on a pre-determined plan with our specifications.

The problem is, we live out of town, so we can't visit the lot everyday to monitor each phase- what is some advice on having a home built?Advice on having a house built?
Maybe you can arrange a weekly appointment with the builder, so you can see what's going on, discuss things, find out what needs to be chosen and when, and stay in touch by phone in between. You don't say how far away from the house you live, but it really helps to see the place as often as you can. If the builder doesn't have a way of taking photos he can send, a digital camera for the house site might be a good idea. Get a copy of the plans for yourself to keep at home and refer to.Advice on having a house built?
Do you have a friend in the place where the house is being built? Perhaps they could serve as you eyes and ears.
