Is it significantly cheaper to have a new house built, than to buy one that is older and used?

Aprox. how much cheaper is it usually to have one built new, than to buy an older one that is the same size?Is it significantly cheaper to have a new house built, than to buy one that is older and used?
It depends on a few things, like how weathered is the existing house, just what you want as a finish with the older house (If you buy a period house and want to do a restoration, that will cost you much more than a renovation and probably more than a bigger new project homes) and the type of finish you pay for with the new house.

Most project type homes are modular, meaning all the windows and door and kitchens/bathrooms from your home, would be able to fit into the design of the next house the builder builds, unless you get one built “architecturally designed” which would cause the outlay to rise.

In general you should be able to end up with a better house you do up, than a new house for the same money, but only because many older house have better features, ornate ceilings, solid doors, better floors, nicer baseboards/ architraves, handmade tiles and so on, but there’s no way anyone could give you an informed answer without seeing what you are looking at new and old.Is it significantly cheaper to have a new house built, than to buy one that is older and used?
Just like buying a new car. Depreciation starts the day you get the keys.

New homes will cost more than one allready built, because costs have risen since the old home was built.

If you buy a used home, some remodeling may be in order. In this case the newer home may be cheaper because some things can be changed to the owners likes, during the building process.

Location, location, location should be the deciding factor for either purchase. Keep in mind the costs of transportation, utility costs, and taxes before commiting to a new home so far away from your work that you need a second mortgage just for fuel costs.

Costs can vary wildly from one location to the next, so do diligent homework before committing to any one home purchase.
It's not cheaper to have a new house built, especially now with so many repos out there. It may be cheaper if you do much of the work yourself.
