House building question?

The house I am in was built in 1948-1950 by my grandfather without using a specific home builder, any idea where I could find the house plans? I am wanting to do some changes and need to look at these to make sure I can do them.

Any ideas of where to find the orginial house plans or copies of them?

Gp is deceased and my mom and Aunts and Uncles to do not have the plans.

Thanks.House building question?
There may not have been any plans, call your local building or planning department, should have some on file if building permits were needed back then.House building question?
THE CITY PLANS CITY OFFICE

OR DOB

DEPT. OF BUILDINGS

PLANS CAN NOT BE TAKEN OUT

YOU CAN REQUEST A COPY FOR $50.

BEST
In most cases of home remodeling, original house plans do not exist unless a home owner kept a copy and stored them away somewhere.

I typically do an as built survey of a building, draw the existing plans from those notes, then proceed with the design of the addition and/or the remodeling. In most cases that is the only way to be sure of having an accurate set. Lots of the time houses don't get built exactly like the construction plans.

Measure it as it exists and then draw it, thats what I typically have to do, time after time.
