How do you insulate a house build out of cinderblock?





An 8 inch cinder block has an R value of only 1.1.How do you insulate a house build out of cinderblock?
As a renter, I use heavy duty insulating window curtains. I use floor length ones to pretty much cover the entire wall of the room, the walls that corresponds to an outside wall of the apartment. It may not sound like it would make much difference, but the curtains have made a big difference for a small investment. I live in Florida, so the goal was to keep the heat OUT and keep the cool IN.How do you insulate a house build out of cinderblock?
Inside-frame out and insulate.

Either way, mount 2 x 4s to the concrete.
That is a hard question and a hard thing to fix. We have the same problem. All we were able to to was the attic, and new windows, and stripping around doors. We layed new carpet but left the old down for exrta padding. Cinderblock is no fun to deal with, becuase it seems little things turn into a lot of work. Good Luck.

Grant , this ? requires knowledge of where u live. cause what works in FLA. won't work in Montana. ask local builders about retrofitting.

Owens Corning makes an amazing product that you can use in place of sheet rock for the interior of your home. It ain't cheap. It is made for basements but sounds perfect for the interior of a cinderblock house. Otherwise you need to put up a vapor barrier, then insulation, then your sheetrock.
