This will only work if you have forced hot air heating:
Somewhere in your house will be one or more vents (called ';cold air returns';) that let air into the ducts for your furnace. Behind these vents you will find a square or rectangular filter, usually made of fiberglass in a cardboard ';frame';. Sometimes, the filter will be attached to the furnace.
Either way, learn to change the filter or filters regularly. ANYBODY can do it easily. You just pop the old one out and push a new one in. The filter will have arrows on it to show the correct direction of airflow.
Most people use the cheapest available, about a dollar each. The filters should be changed at least every 60 days, we change ours once a month.
If dust is a problem, I suggest using HEPA grade filters. They cost more, about 12-15 dollars each but they do a far better job of filtering out pollutants and allergens. You can get 'em at Home Depot, Lowes or any local hardware store.
My wife is allergic to dogs. We use the HEPA filters on our air handler (since we heat with wood, we only use the fan from our heating system, not the furnace) and my wife's allergies are NOT a problem at all, even though we have two big ugly dogs.
The HEPA filters also cut way down on dust. Don't forget to change them regularly. Clean filters work better and help your furnace run most efficiently.
Hope this helps.
Update: I see that you change the filters every 30 days. Have you tried the HEPA filters yet? Might help. Good luck. What can you do about a dusty house? I live in a house built in the 70s and it's always so dusty.?
try putting a good filter in your heating and cooling system, try to figure out how all the dust is getting in,calk around your windows, doors, ect.
Part of the dust amount depends on your location, how many people are in the house, and how many pets are in the house. I would suggest using a vaccumn with HEPA filter as well as purchasing air filtering systems, preferably HEPA ones.
I don't know where you live, but we live in a semi-desert area of West Texas. If we let ourselves, we would need to dust everyday. But people who live in this area are use to the constant dust and only dust once or twice per week.
