My husband and I are building a ranch style house in Polk county, Beaver township, Wisconsin. We are having a tough time with our building inspector. I am looking for a book or website that tells us the most current ';rules'; for building a house. Any ideas where I could find anything like this?? Thanks so much!! KKWhere can I find house building regulations in my county?
First off, if you are building this as an owner/builder, my sypathies. :)
Secondly, everyone has a boss. You did not really specify what the friction is between you and the inspector. (Not what you want to hear --%26gt;) Is it because your construction project continually fails inspections because you don't understand the building code? Or is it because he has an attitude problem and isn't necessarily helping you by clarifying descrepancies? Go see the BUILDING OFFICIAL. He is the inspector's boss and has final code interpretation say. (Be nice, he is your friend :) and you don't want him coming to inspect.)
The State of Wisconsin has it's own building code. It is based on the International Building Code which has been adopted with modifications by nearly ever state. You can find a link to the Wisconsin Code at the bottom. Also a link to the ICC website.
If you are looking for ';rules'; to build a house, I really wouldn't even know where to start because there are thousands of them.
In Florida, which is an ICC state as well, we require signed and sealed engineered drawings and they are meticulously reviewed by a licensed plans examiner in the building department. As long as the house is built like the plan, you shouldn't fail an inspection. Of course there are the little things that are not on the plans that are covered by building code. For example, we do not require a drawing detail such as sleeving your pipes 1-1/2 times the size when they pass through a foundation wall - that is covered by code and should be known by the builder.
Cheers and good luck with the home building!Where can I find house building regulations in my county?
I don't know your country regulations. pity.
Go to your county's website.
go to your local City Hall and ask for the Building Inspector, you'll get a clear answer and they will let you know everything you need to know. They'll let you know the status of your current residence and if your allowed or not allowed to build. BUT since your having a hard time with the Building Inspector, i would request from him a ';booklet'; or ';rules sheet';...all countys are different, so i dont think a ceartin website can give you one answer...try requesting another Building Inspector...or complain about him/her.
Depends on the state you live in...contact builder registratiions for that state. It is usually within the Dept of Community Affairs for that state
call or visit ur local planning and zoning or the health dept where u get soil samples and septic permits can tell u all u need 2 know get to know them cause if ur building a house u will vist them more than u will want to good luck
