Would a house built in 1953 be likely to have hardwood floors hidden under the carpet?

I'm buying a house, havent had a chance to look under the carpet yet to see if there is hardwood hidden under neath. What era were homes commonly built with hardwood?Would a house built in 1953 be likely to have hardwood floors hidden under the carpet?
its very possibleWould a house built in 1953 be likely to have hardwood floors hidden under the carpet?
there is a very good chance that there is wooden flooring under the carpet. unless it was changed from the original the subflooring there should be boards that run on an angle. if you can go into the basement and if the ceiling is open then you might be able to see. alot of times there is a gap between floor boards so you may see wood flooring above the sub floor. the best way is to peel back the carpet or check the closets sometimes when carpet was installed over wood flooring they didn't lay carpet in the closet. also try pulling up some of the floor defusers from the furnace you will be able to see that way too.
I wouldn't think it would be so much the era ( unless you're looking at much older homes than that, when almost all homes had hardwood floors) but the style and price of the home. Some of the houses built in the 50's might certainly have hardwood floors, but some of them may just have some sort of sub-flooring underneath.
Well It would depend on who built it... Here's a carpet installation guide. If you pull up a corner of your carpet, unless it is glue down of course, you can probably wiggle it right back into the corner.... Check...

Make sure that since it is an older house that you check for asbestos sine it has been used in flooring for a while now. The link above will give you an idea of the type of tools you can use to do this!
In an older established neighborhood good chance they are.

Hardwood was pretty much the standard ';back when';.

Low end tract homes may have had linoleum or ';kentile '; floor coverings.

Wall to wall carpeting was something of a luxury %26amp; added on later regardless of what might be underneath
It very well might have hardwood under the carpet.

However ... hardwood is usually such a selling-point that the previous owner or the realtor would likely have mentioned it right away.
