Tree Preservation order and house building?

How far away does a new development i.e. a new build house have to be from the roots of a tree (in this case an Ash tree) to comply with the rules of a tree preservation order or is it very specific to the development? ThanksTree Preservation order and house building?
It would be specific as the age and type of species would determine the root structureTree Preservation order and house building?
What you should be thinking about is whether the roots of the tree will go under your foundations. The roots normally go out least least as far as the branches. On the internet you can find out how far different sorts of tree need to be from the nearest building. You also have to think about where your drains will run, as some tree roots will find them and get into the drain pipe. If you are worried about the tree preservation order your local council will be able to advise you as they are the ones who make the order.
Stay relaxed Max... and think of other things!!!!
